| Offshore company formations' could set sights on Scotland' |
Scotland could become the next hot spot for offshore company formations if Holyrood receives greater tax powers in the future, according to one businessman.
Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management said that Edinburgh's financial services could be considered alongside those of Dublin and Luxembourg if the Scottish government was granted more control over taxes.
Mr Gilbert, who is a member of the Financial Services Advisory Board, said he would urge ministers to consider the change if this happened, making the country an attractive place for offshore accounting services.
"We would see a huge new industry coming to Edinburgh," he told the news provider.
"There's no reason why Edinburgh should not attract that business and grow back to its former greatness."
In the latest listing of Global Financial Index Centres by the City of London, Jersey was the only offshore centre to be placed in the top 20. |
